Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that Celtic Park is the best stadium he’s ever played at in terms of the atmosphere. The former Real Madrid man is one of the best players of all-time and has played at some incredible venues and in front of some wild supporters over the years.
He has called stadiums like Allianz Stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, and Old Trafford home during his career. He has also performed at famous venues like Wembley Stadium, Anfield, and Camp Nou. Nevertheless, he didn’t pick any of those stadiums when it came to naming the one where he felt the most ambiance.
Ronaldo Picked Celtic Park
He labelled the Celtic fans ‘incredible’
There are few football grounds in the world quite as iconic as Celtic Park. Home to its namesake, the ground has seen some incredible moments over the years and is home to some of the most passionate and rabid football fans in the sport. As a result, Ronaldo had no doubt when naming Celtic Park, also known as Parkhead, as the stadium with the best atmosphere. As shared by Celtic’s official website, he said:
“The Celtic fans are incredible. It is always great to play there.”
In 2006, he made his debut at the stadium while playing for Manchester United. Following a free kick by Shunsuke Nakamura, the Red Devils actually lost the game. Although he has subsequently returned and enjoyed some greater success, Ronaldo was obviously impacted by the experience of playing on Celtic’s field.
There are other football legends who share the Portuguese superstar’s admiration for the field. Both Lionel Messi, his fiercest opponent, and Sir Alex Ferguson, his former United boss, have had nothing but positive things to say about Celtic Park.
“Parkhead is THE best I’ve experienced,” Ferguson, the greatest manager of all time, said, expressing his admiration for the venue’s atmosphere. The other day, the players were discussing that; Vidic and Ronaldo said it was the best atmosphere they had ever played in. They don’t half lift the ceiling, so the supporters get credit for that. Given their recent performance, it’s clear how the Celtic players respond to it. You will soon be discovered by them, so you will need to run that extra yard.”
That’s some high praise coming from a man who has accomplished and seen the things that Ferguson did throughout his illustrious career as a manager.
