**Devastating Landslide Claims Lives in Guyana’s Hinterlands**

A tragic landslide in Guyana’s hinterland has left at least 15 people dead and dozens more missing, marking one of the worst natural disasters to hit the country in recent years. The disaster struck in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a heavy rainfall triggered a massive landslide in the remote mining town of Rockstone, located in the interior of the country. The landslide buried several homes and a small mining operation, trapping residents under tons of mud and debris.

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched, but the difficult terrain and continuing rainfall have hampered rescue efforts. As of now, rescue teams have managed to recover a handful of survivors, but the scale of the disaster continues to unfold. The local community is reeling from the shock, as many families are left searching for loved ones, while others have been forced to flee to higher ground.

The landslide also disrupted the region’s main transport routes, further complicating relief efforts. With the area being largely inaccessible, authorities have called for international assistance to help with both search and rescue and long-term recovery.

This tragedy has highlighted the vulnerability of Guyana’s interior communities to extreme weather events, prompting calls for improved infrastructure and disaster preparedness in the region.
