I played with Lennon Miller’s dad and would love him to snub Celtic for Rangers – just like I did 20 years ago

The Motherwell starlet is set to be a player in demand after a string of impressive displays

Nacho Novo wants Lennon Miller, the Motherwell wonderkid, to choose Rangers over Celtic if given the option, much like he did twenty years ago.

When Dundee received bids from the Glasgow giants, the Spaniard had the choice of both sides of the Old Firm divide. He said that his choice to play for the blue half was the best of his career.
During his six years with Govan, Novo won six major awards and advanced to the UEFA Cup final before rejoining Sporting Dijon in his home country of Spain. Later in his career, the striker played for Carlisle, where he was paired with Lennon’s father, Lee Miller, who is a sought-after property. Several English Premier League teams recently scouted him.

The 45-year-old, though, speaking to gambling.com, knows where he wants the teenager to go. He said: “It’s a difficult one. He’s a very talented player, but I don’t know if he [Lennon Miller] will decide to go to Rangers or Celtic. It depends on how much he’s going to play at Celtic, and how much he’s going to play at Rangers.

Given that Rangers need new and talented legs, perhaps he will play more games. He was a superb striker, and I played with his dad at Carlisle United. Since he is excellent and mature for his age, I would be thrilled if the Rangers signed him. Despite only being eighteen, he appears to be a skilled player. He will only continue to improve.

Rangers must improve since they are nine points behind Aberdeen and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings. This has put further pressure on Philippe Clement before Saturday’s trip to Ibrox by Dundee United.

Novo said: “I hope Philippe Clement can turn Rangers’ season around. It’s very tough. At the moment he’s the manager and we need to support him.

“Hopefully, he will make a change. Who are they going to bring if he leaves? That’s a different question. The correct individual must be involved. We must acknowledge that he is currently the club’s manager. Hopefully, a change will occur.

“At the moment, things are really difficult. Hopefully, though, things will start to change as soon as the boys return from their week off. Before the international break, Rangers had won two straight games; it might have been preferable to just keep playing. However, there are instances when a reset is beneficial, and ideally they return stronger. The Rangers still have a lot of work to do in the early stages of the season.

Striker Cyriel Dessers has come in for some flak during his time at Ibrox and Novo said: “Dessers is a good player. Ally McCoist used to tell me all the time after I’d missed a chance, that you only need to worry [as a striker] when you are not creating any chances. As long as you’re getting in areas and you create chances – even if you miss. But at the same time, a lot of football works on confidence. He needs to have a little bit more support and for more people to go forward to help him.”
